WeGP is supporting funds to complete the film America You Kill Me the story of Grosse Pointe South Alumnus and Jeffrey Montogmery, who was a pioneering advoacate in the LGBTQ+ Community in Detroit. In 1991 he co-founded the Triangle Foundation to fight back against the anti-gay violence and support victims of hate crime attacks and abuse.
We are supporting this project because it shows how individuals can impact the lives of those around them. That by organizing strategically, with focus, the flame of that influence can be made to grow ever larger.
Production is in the final stretch, led by Jeffrey's brother. Funds raised will support the necessary expenses to complete the film including entry to important film festivals such as Sundance.
The waves of change in LGBT rights did not happen in a vacuum, and are owed in large part to activists like this, across the nation, fighting for equality and crafting tactical opposition. We hope the film can serve as an entry point to deeper empathy and understanding through this dramatic personal narrative.
