WEGP Environment Task Force
Relatively recently a WEGP task force has formed focusing on the environment. The task force members are involved in the roundtable process established by State Senator Adam Hollier. Having identified environmental issues that would require legislation and/or agency action at the state level, they are planning to continue participating to ensure that the identified items remain priorities as they gather support from the community. Thus far they are working with legislators and have allied themselves with neighboring Hamtramck and Detroit.
The WEGP Task Force has been meeting every other week at 6:30 pm on Wednesdays at the Starbucks in the Village. They are meeting tonight (May 29). The next roundtable is this Monday June 3rd @ 6:30 at the Voyageur Academy, 4321 Military Street in Detroit. For more information email MaryGPP5@gmail.com especially if you would like to attend the roundtable.
Some of the Reasons Why We March
The Transgender community continues to come under increasing assaults verbally, physically, mentally, legally and politically. Consider the contents of this poster published on Facebook:
"Are Transgender Americans Getting Too Many Special Rights?
1. Prohibited From Using Public Restrooms
2. Banned From Serving Their Country
3. Barred from Homeless Shelters
4. Restricted from Competing in Sports
5. Incarcerated with People of a Different Gender
6. Denied Proper Medical Care
7. Trans Panic Defense Legal In 46 States
8. Can Be Fired from Work In Most States
Please Stop Giving Us so Many Special Rights"
Please March with us to support all of our neighbors.
